Did you know most people spend 53 minutes a day on Insta? Yep, almost an hour scrolling through our feeds – taking in the images, videos, and captions. That’s a lot of time, and it can have a huge influence on how you feel about your place in the world.
When Instagram is brimming with seemingly perfect people and their seemingly perfect lives, it’s easy to slip into the nasty habit of comparison. We’ve all made the mistake of following people who make us feel inadequate or inferior, but what’s brilliant about Insta is that it’s not difficult to take control back.
SO, lady, we want you to take 10 minutes out of your day to curate an Instagram feed that empowers you – that makes you feel inspired and heartened with every double tap.
Let’s start with your ‘following’ list
Alrighty. Scroll through the people you’re currently following and think about what those people make you feel. Does their content bring joy to your life, or do their images make you feel a bit crappy? Do they inject positivity into your day, or do you exit their profile feeling a little bit worse? Do they inspire you to be your best self, or do they make you feel like a failure?
We want you to unfollow anyone who makes you feel anything negative. It doesn’t matter if they’re the ‘cool’ influencer to follow – this is an exercise to nurture your experience on Instagram. It’s nothing personal! We’re just focusing on you and your happiness right now. Are you seeing Insta handles make you feel happy and fulfilled? GOOD. Keep them. Those influencers are worth their weight in gold.
Now some questions about YOU
OK, lovely. Time for some introspection. What do you want to be doing in five years? What are your big health, fitness, career, and LIFE goals? Do you have a mentor – someone who represents the person you one day want to be?
If your answer is ‘no’, we think you should go find them.
If you want to become an avid runner, why don’t you try finding a strong and inspirational woman like Turia Pitt? If you want to create your own business, why not follow the founder of Business Chicks, Emma Isaacs? If you want to be an author, chuck Zoe Foster Blake a follow!
The more you immerse yourself with people who inspire you, the closer you are to those big, audacious goals of yours.
The profiles you follow don’t have to be just ‘people’, either. Is there an inspirational account you can follow – one that shares KIC’ ass memes and quotes? Is there a cute animal account that will fill your day with furry goodness? Is there a foodie account that will encourage healthy, lasting habits, not strict dieting and restriction?
Do you have someone who empowers you on Insta? Tell us about them! Hop into our Facebook group and let the Keep It Cleaner Squad know – we can all have a following party!
